I read a great tip from Out of Debt Again on how to remove wrinkles on clothes like magic. Mrs. Accountability uses water and spritzes her clothes with it. After a few minutes, her clothes become wrinkle-free.
This post reminded me of a trick I use to make ironing clothes easier. I also use a spray bottle filled with water but add a twist. I learned this trick from Mom a long time ago and have been doing this ever since.
We only have a washing machine and no dryer at home. After washing our clothes in the machine, I have to hang them on the clothesline to dry. When they are dry, I collect the clothes and dump them in a laundry basket. They stay there until it is time to iron them. When it is time to iron, I prep the ironing board and my spray bottle and the iron. The trick is to add a few drops of fabric softener/conditioner to the water in the spray bottle. For 1 cup of water, I add about a teaspoon of fabric softener.
Before I iron the clothes, I spray everything with the 'softener solution'. I also spray the ironing board a little bit -- just enough to make it slightly damp. Then, I start ironing. For jeans and other hard to iron clothes, I spray them again while ironing.
Using this trick makes ironing much more easier and faster for me. It also makes the clothes smell like they were just freshly laundered.
Did you find this tip helpful? If you have other ironing tips, I would love to hear them.
