Photos of the Kadayawan Exhibit

We went to the exhibit at the Davao Agro Trade Fair and Horticulture Exhibit last Sunday.

We were not able to see the floral float parade anymore because Leelai was watching her Disney channel and did not want to be disturbed. We also did not go downtown to watch it  live because it was too hot outside so we stayed at home and just waited until 3 pm. (Hence, sorry I have no pictures of the floats to show you.)

When we got to SM, there already was a long line of cars trying to get into SM's parking lots. We were lucky, though, because a car left a spot just in front of us. We went to Mom's store to leave Liam with her. Then, Leelai and I went to see the exhibit.

The exhibit behind Leelai belongs to the Orchid Society of Davao (Mom's org).

Inside, there were a lot of people already taking pictures of the plants and orchids on display. There were photographers carrying all sorts of cameras -- high-tech, point and shoot (like mine), and even cellphone cameras. It was a bit crowded because some photographers were taking time with their shots and didn't want other people in the frame.

As for me however, I just kept on clicking. I was able to take a few pictures before the batteries of my camera ran out. The fair and exhibit will still be there until the end of August. I must remember to go back this weekend to take more pictures before they pull-out.

The first place winner for the exhibit was Puentespina Orchids and Garden (see second photo).

Kadayawan has transformed into a festival of festivals, with a number of spin-off festivals in the region. The festival honors Davao’s artistic, cultural and historical heritage, its past personified by the ancestral “lumads”, its people as they celebrate on the streets, and its floral industry as its representatives parade in full regalia in thanksgiving for the blessings granted on the city.

Great pictures - especially of your little model :). What an amazing exhibit you attended! I wish more conventions and exhibits were as creative and eye-catching as this one.
