34 days to Christmas

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..."

Here are things I did so far to celebrate my favorite holiday:

  • Rearranged the sala furniture in preparation for the Christmas tree.
  • Shopped at Amazon for Christmas presents.
  • Installed a Christmas countdown widget on my blog's sidebar.
  • Started playing Christmas songs.

What have you done so far?

Bacon better than fish

I usually don't open forwarded emails and read the whole thing let alone blog about it. But, an email with this title which was forwarded by Mama got my attention.

Who doesn't love bacon? Almost everyone I know does... And who doesn't know that eating fish, and it's omega-3 fatty acids, is good for our health?

Well, researchers have found out that there is a fish that is NOT...

Farm-raised tilapia, one of the most highly consumed fish in America, has very low levels of beneficial omega-3 fatty acids and, perhaps worse, very high levels of omega-6 fatty acids, according to new research from Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

The email caught my attention because I like eating Tilapia...especially when it is pinaputok or crispy fried versions.

Deep-fried tilapia

Papa Wins doesn't like it so much. He said he doesn't like the taste. Maybe he has a sixth sense about unhealthly food? He doesn't like bacon either.

Tilapia has higher levels of potentially detrimental long-chain omega-6 fatty acids than 80-percent-lean hamburger, doughnuts and even pork bacon, the article says.(...more...)

Knowing this, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy/order/cook Tilapia anymore. I would still like to eat Tilapia every now and then. But we should be having more Tuna - the canned and fresh versions - from now on.

Though the article came out around July 2008, I only learned about it today. I am curious to know if YOU are aware of this fact? After knowing this, would you change your eating habits?

Singing Christmas Songs

"City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style..."

It's that time of the year for Christmas songs once again. I already re-burned Leelai's favorite Christmas songs to a new CD. It is now in the car's CD player. Everytime Leelai is in the car, that is what she wants to hear. She already forgot most of the lyrics. But after listening to it for a day or two, she remembered most of it already. Her favorite is still "Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer" and "Frosty the snowman".

Front

The album Christmas with Disney was her favorite last year. She loved it so much that Papa Wins and I were forced into listening to it even long after Christmas! And long after Valentine's Day, too! Good thing (for us) the CD got damaged from too much playing and Leelai had no choice but wait until next Christmas.

Here's the list of songs in the album:

  1. Here comes Santa Claus
  2. The twelve days of Christmas
  3. Jingle bells
  4. Rudolph the red nosed reindeer
  5. Frosty the snowman
  6. Sleigh ride
  7. Here we come a carolling
  8. Deck the halls
  9. Joy to the world
  10. Jolly old Saint Nicholas
  11. Silent Night
  12. Away in a manger
  13. Christmas together o Christmas tree
  14. Santa Claus is coming to town
  15. From all of us to all of you
  16. We wish you a merry Christmas

I will try to look for another Christmas album for Leelai. I will probably choose from Disney's selection again. If you have any suggestions that a 4-year old will enjoy, I would love to hear it.

On the same holiday note (pun intended!), I joined a conversation at dNeero about Christmas music...
